Participating in CGRI

Details About Participating

CGRI invites a sample of enterprises that reflect the diversity of the American cooperative community to participate in an online survey and follow-up interviews in odd-numbered years (2021, 2023, etc.).

Cooperatives selected into the 2021 sample received details about how to complete the survey in October via emails to their CEO, General Manager, or person responsible for governance with the following subject lines and senders:

  • “You’re invited to participate in the Cooperative Governance Research Initiative” from Courtney Berner, UW Center for Cooperatives,
  • “What’s the key to strong governance? Share your experience to help co-ops thrive” from Courtney Berner, UW Center for Cooperatives,

The online survey takes approximately 30 minutes, although completion time varies because it is customized based on each cooperatives’ industry, membership structure, and other characteristics. Please click here to view the full 2021 CGRI questionnaire.

Participation is voluntary and confidential, and no individual cooperative will be identifiable in the final results. As a token of appreciation, each participating cooperative will receive an advance analysis of the results. The first 300 participants also received a $25 gift card to REI.

Follow-up interviews with survey respondents will take place in early 2022. UWCC will publish findings from the first wave of data collection later that year.
