All about cooperative-bus

The name of our list is "cooperative-bus". We set up this list because we believe there's a need for a virtual forum on cooperatives, which brings together the experiences and wisdom of cooperators in a wide variety of sectors.

When you send an e-mail message to this address, all subscribers, including yourself, will get a copy. When you receive a message from another subcriber, their personal e-mail address will be included in the message. This way, you have the option of either replying to that person directly (using their personal e-mail address) or you can respond using the listserver address so that all subscribers can "listen in" on the conversation.

The purpose of this list is broad. Some of the topics we hope to see discussed include: the strengths and weaknesses of the cooperative form of business in solving people's economic and socal needs; cooperative development; strategic planning; capital formation and revolvement; membership governance; co-op management; board-manager relations.... etc.

It's also useful when people post information about conferences, meetings, research, books and other resources that relate to cooperative enterprise.

Netiquette

There are a number of rules of "netiquette" that you will need to follow if you wish to use this cooperative listserver. Perhaps the most important is that all users stick to the topic at hand-- cooperative business.

To help avoid unnecessary frustration with list-server messages,

  1. Please, with every posting and reply, include your full name and primary organization or affiliation in your signature.

  2. If you make references to people or organizations, be polite and use full names, rather than simply first names or acronymns, and offer a brief background when appropriate.

  3. Some discussions may eventually degrade into the "chit-chat" category. Unfortunately, what is chit-chat to one person is interesting to another.
To deal with this, we'd like to suggest these things:
    • censure yourself
    • reply to individuals, not the list, when appropriate
    • include a descriptive one-line summary of your message in the first line of each message as well as in the Subject. Don't include another person's entire message just to add a few words at the end. Most readers will have already read the message you wish to refer to.

Please contact us if you have problems or questions. Thanks for your interest!
